Spectacular weather for our last walk of 2021
Started
off with a cool 9c, but soon climbed to 21c
Felt just like a really good summer day in the UK
We should have had 11 on this walk
But three cancellations reduced it to 8
This included Saskia on her first walk with the group
There are 40 members at present
But about one third live in the UK
And many of the rest have other commitments at Christmas and New Year
We have lost a lot of members since Covid hit in March 2021
But fortunately have built up the membership again despite the restrictions
And it’s nice to introduce new members to old favourite walks
This is a particularly good walk for new members
It is very local to most of them, but not a walk they could find on their own
It also has the advantage that they can do parts of it on their own
A familiar spot featured in most posts of this walk
And a little sad that so many familiar faces are missing
New restrictions meant we had to wear face masks in the village
The square was packed, but we managed to find a couple of tables
Stats
Time taken – 5 hours
Distance – 13 km
Total ascent – 370 metres
Temperature – 9-21c
Eleven on today’s walk
A good turnout at this time of year
It included Jan, who has not walked for six weeks
Once
more most of us were wearing festive headgear
Many,
like me, will be relieved it will be the last time until next Christmas
This
is the second time in a few weeks we have walked from Jalon to Parcent
But
this was a different route from last time
We
started off with jackets and jumpers
But it was not long before the outer layers were removed
We have had a couple of grey days with light rain
So
it was particularly nice to have a sunny day today
It
makes us appreciate how lucky we are to live in Sunny Spain
As always there was no shortage of chat on the walk
And Jan got to meet a couple of new members
This included Betty
And our new neighbour Lisa
We had our picnic lunch at the Parcent font
Which we had to share with a Spanish lady doing her washing
Then our last break at Alcalali ermita
Notice I had coffee, the beer belong to Tina
Stats
Time taken – 4.5
hours
Distance
– 12 km
Total
ascent – 80 metres
Temperature
– 6-17c
Only nine on todays walk
It should have been thirteen
But
Barry and Linda had to return to UK early
Tina
and Jocelyn both had medical problems
Tina is very suspicious, because she suggested we wear Christmas hats today
I suspected that most would not do so
But I kept some tinsel in my haversack, just in case
I was pleasantly surprised that most had done so
I quickly added the tinsel to my hat
It is not unusual for numbers to fall at this time of year
So
it was a good day for Lisa to join us for her first walk
And
also to welcome Marlies back after a long break for injury
Once more we had lovely weather
Not at all appropriate given the festive headgear
It felt just like a good summer day in the UK
And it reminded us just how lucky we are to live in “sunny Spain”
It was so pleasant that we had an extended lunch break
Resulting in us taking a little longer than expected
But I didn’t hear anyone complaining
Unfortunately Jan had to miss this walk, but hopefully will be with us again soon
